After winning both the previous matches, India are now looking odds-on to win this ODI series against England. If England wish to turn things around and take the series back from India, they must win both the remaining matches along with this one. They tried valiantly in this game, much better than the two previous games, but India had enough strength to out match their efforts and come out with the all important win.

England decided to bat first after winning the toss today and did quite well. Except for Alaister Cook, who fell on the 4th over of the innings for just 3 runs, the rest of the batsmen were solid and scored fairly fast. The key contributor with the bat was Jonathan Trott who scored 98 runs in 116 balls.

Along with some good contributions from Kevin Pieterson, who scored 68 off 61, and a fine finish by Samit Patel, who scored 70 runs in 43 balls, England managed to get 298 runs in their 50 overs with the loss of just 4 wickets. The Indian bowlers did not have the best of days out in the field today but still Ravichandra Ashwin bowled fairly well even though he didn’t manage to take any wickets, finishing with figures of 45 runs in his 10 overs.

India now needed 299 runs to win at just below 6 runs an over. They started their innings very well as the opening batsmen put on a 79 run partnership. Parthiv Patel was the first to fall after scoring 38 runs off 46 balls but Ajinkya Rahane kept on batting getting India close to the target with his individual score of 91 runs in 104 balls.

With good support from Gautam Gambhir, who scored 58 runs, and Virat Kohli, who scored 35 runs, India were now in at very good position with 213/3 and 12 overs remaining, looking odds-on to win the match. Which is exactly what they did as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored 35 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 26 runs, put on a 65 run unbeaten partnership. Steven Finn was the best of the English bowlers with figures of 44 for 2 wickets. But despite his efforts, India had done enough and finished with a total of 300 runs for 5 wickets in 49.2 overs.

Another good victory for the Indians as they have now won the first 3 games of the 5 match ODI series. This also means they have now done enough to win the series with 2 games remaining. England will be very disappointed having lost the series in the first 3 games, still they will definitely look to win the next 2 games and avoid the dreaded white-wash at all costs.
