After winning the first match so comfortably, confidence must be high in the Indian camp. With England looking to make sure they don’t go too far behind in the 5 match ODI series, the stage was set for a cracking encounter between two talented sides. And after it was all said and done it was team India who came out with the victory again and went 2 up in the series with 3 matches remaining.

It was England who won the toss today and decided to have a bat first. But they couldn’t have imagined a worse start, losing both their opening batsmen in the first 2 overs without scoring a single run. After that Kevin Pieterson and Jonathan Trott started the recovery process for England before Trott fell in the 10th over for 34 runs. It took a very good partnership between Pieterson and Ravi Bopara after that to bring England back in the game. The two batsmen put on a 63 run partnership before both batsmen were eventually dismissed with the score on 121.

Jonny Bairshow and Samit Patel then put on a 86 run partnership taking the England total past 200. The stage was now set for England to score some heavy runs in the remaining 10 overs, but losing both Bairshow and Patel in back to back overs really slowed the run-rate down as they finished the innings all-out on the 49th over for 237 runs. The Indian bowlers had done well to restrict England to such a dismal score and the pick of the lot has to be Vinay Kumar with figures of 4 wickets for just 30 runs in his 9 overs.

The Indian dressing room must have been full of confidence known that they can surely chase this total under home conditions. But losing both opening batsmen, Parthiv Patel and Ajinkya Rahane, to Tim Bresnan so early in the innings must have worried the players and supporters. It was all smooth sailing from there though as Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir took complete control of proceedings and got India over the finishing line with 8 wickets to spare. Gambhir remained not-out at 84 runs and Kohli managed to get the century he deserved as he finished with 112 runs not-out. A bad day in the office for the English bowlers but atleast Tim Bresnan deserves some praise for getting rid of both the openers and finishing up with figures for 2 for 41 in his 7 overs.

Another easy victory for the Indian team taking them to a very comfortable position as they lead the 5 match series with 2 wins. England will need pick themselves up before the next match or it’ll be curtains to their hopes of winning the series away from home right then and there.
